Warrior

Went to see the new MMA flick Warrior.  I liked this movie alot and thought it was pretty good.  My main problem with movies like this is  the previews are misleading because you see the trailers and think this is going to be a fighting movie with drama mixed in. WRONG, this movie is a drama with a little mma mixed in. This movie is well acted and well written and the fight scenes are put together really well.  The underlying drama with the brothers is very realistic and handled in an honest way. There is a nice little twist concerning one of the main characters that I didn't see coming.  This movie is very enjoyable and I think it will lose some on the dvd so I think it is a must see in theaters. If you like drama and fighting movies this is one to see.

Here's a couple of extra fighting films out on dvd that are worth checking out.

Gladiator (not the Russell Crowe film) this one has Cuba Gooding Jr. and Brian Dennehy very good film about underground boxing.

Diggstown great movie with James Woods and Louis Gossett about boxing and con men. This is a great older movie and you will not be disappointed.

Contagion

First let me start by saying I thought this movie was well acted. Now that being said this movie is not worth the price of admission, they don't develop the interesting story lines enough.  I like Matt Damon but he is completely wasted in this movie as the betrayed husband and overprotective father, Gwyneth is barely even in the movie. I really had high hopes for this movie as I really like the runaway virus movies but the best parts are seen in the trailer.  They don't in my opinion, even begin to show the measures desperate people would go to for medicine and supplies.  This movie is dvd material at best. And by the way I still have no clue why Jude Law was even in this film.  Actually if you want to see a better virus movie rent Outbreak with Dustin Hoffman and Rene Russo at least that movie makes you pull for the main characters.

Fright Night

Went to check out the new Fright Night movie and I must say I enjoyed it. Colin Farrell is actually pretty good as the brooding, mysterious neighbor slash vampire. Anton Yelchin  playing the nerd trying not to be a nerd perfectly. He does great in the movie and holds his own in every scene.  Christopher Mintz-Plasse of Kick-Ass fame is kind of lost in this movie playing the nerdy ex-friend.  The movie has good action and moves along at a very nice pace. Overall I would say it was a good vampire movie with some comedy and action in it. I don't think this movie will lose anything with dvd so unless you are a die-hard vampire or Farrell fan you can wait for the release.

Conan the Barbarian

Went to check out Conan on Sunday. This movie is two hours and nine minutes long and after about one hour and fifty minutes the fire alarm goes off at gateway and they turn off the movie.  They rushed us all outside and lined us up and gave us a free movie pass. Now what I saw of this new Conan was good and a total action fix. I cannot give a full accounting until I get to see the end, and I am never going to sit thru that much of a movie again for the last 20 minutes.  The movie was entertaining and I think Jason  Momoa was a good stand in for Arnold.  Don't get me wrong Arnold is still the barbarian king.  The effects were obviously quite good but that has become the norm in big hollywood movies. The action and fight scenes were good especially the early one with the warrior challene involving young Conan.  This movie I think will lose alot to dvd so this is a big screen must see if you like the sword and socery movies.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Bridesmaids

Okay movie number three was Rise of the Planet of the Apes.  This was a really solid movie, the human acting was good but like you would expect the apes really stole the show.  The effects in this movie are very good.  This is a must see in the theater.  The sights and sounds on the big screen will be much better.  The fight scene on the bridge is awesome.  This is a great reboot to a classic scifi series. I enjoyed this movie alot and with the story development it is not required that you know about the past movies.

The last movie I saw was Bridesmaids.  This movie was funny but they were trying really hard to be a female Hangover.  The movie has very crude humor and I think the Jackass guys would be proud of some of the gags in this movie.  There are a few laughs in this movie but by the end it falls into a predictable pattern.  I caught it in the 1.50 theater so it seemed like a good value to me.  This is one that you can wait for the dvd.  If you like your humor crude its worth a look.

Quadruple Feature

Sorry it took so long for a new post but I was on vacation.  Luckily when I got back I was able to see 4 movies and now I can give my opinion about them.

The first one I saw was Cowboys and Aliens.  This was a great western that someone decided to put a good scifi into.  This is the kind of movie that wants you to just have a rip roarin good time watching it.  Found it a little strange that these so called cowboys would be so accepting of the thought of space flight but hey it was fun.  So if you are willing to suspend reality for a couple of hours you can have some fun watching this good ole fashion popcorn movie.

The second movie was the latest Pirates of the Carribean flick.  Let's just say you can only ride the same ride so many times.  Unless you are a hardcore fan or have amazingly not seen the other movies in this series wait for the dvd.  Best thing about the movie was the sets and makeup, they were quite good. Depp is really annoying not adding anything new to the Capt.

That's it for tonight do the others tomorrow.

Captain America

Got to admit I was a little put off by the thought of the wise-cracking human torch playing the most patriotic hero in Marvel's stable.  Chris Evans does a good job as Steve Rogers/Captain America leaving the comedic disposition with the Torch character.  The special effects used to make him seem small and weak really flows quite nicely.  This movie was a good popcorn movie and really sets up the origin of Captain America.  The Red Skull makeup could have been a little better at times but did not detract from the movie.  Other than adding depth to the movie the 3D aspect  really doesn't add to the movie so unless you are hardcore 3D don't waste the extra money.  Overall a good movie.  As per advice of a reader this movie while enjoyable is not one that requires you to see it in theaters, I believe it will be equally as good on bluray. That is unless you are a comics fan then definitely see it in theaters because the theaters allow you to feel all the explosions.
